Think Picasso rocks? Think he's the most overrated artist of all time? Join the Times of London's
poll to pick the 200 most influential visual artists of the era (lumping together modern with contemporary). Sattchi Gallery Online and the Times put together the polling list from user votes, narrowed to 500 -- so you can't put yourself in -- but the list is pretty interesting, from my…

Do you use public transit to go see art or do anything in NYC? If you live here or come here often, find out how proposed
service cuts and fare hikes are going to affect you and respond.

Can you picture this?
Arrested for taking photos of the NYC subway, even though it's
legal. Don't these guys have anything better to do? The camera-wielding perp knew his rights and it didn't seem to matter. Still, you might want to know
your rights:

Holland Cotter, in his story
The Boom Is Over. Long Live the Art! (
New York Times, Feb 12) tells us what we've known all along: the art market has been one big, self-serving, economic frenzy. He thinks the coming crash is going to help art (the content). I'll drink to that.

Well, according to the Senate, they should all be banned from receiving any funds from the the economic recovery bill. Casino = museum? This is ridiculous.
Breaking News
Americans for the Arts reports that yesterday the U.S. Senate, during their consideration of the economic recovery bill, approved an egregious amendment offered by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) that…

I confess: I know less than nothing about sports. In fact, my closest connection to any football field came last Thursday at Marlborough Gallery in Chelsea, where I went to see
Jane Dickson's show Night Driving, an exhibition of about twenty recent oil paintings on astroturf. Yes, that's right. Astroturf. Think pointillism meets the playing field.…

After reading Damon Krukowski's review in
Art Forum of Brian Eno's latest venture in atmospheric composition, I rushed right over to the iPhone Apps store and bought my very own copy of Bloom. Bloom is an interactive compositional piece by Eno and Peter Chilvers made exclusively for the iPhone and iPod touch.
I've spent hours over the last two days creating and enjoying the recurring and "evolving" loops that you create by tapping…

Very glad to have come across this site. I live in Inwood in Upper Manhattan and have just quit my job to work as an artist full time - pastel, pen and ink, acrylic, paper. I mix media all the time. Since I am sooooo inexperienced at living like this does anyone have any suggestions as to what associations to join or how to find exposure besides locally? I want to ultimatly get into galleries in Soho. Quite an ambition.
Well, thank you in advance for any suggestions you may…

With the inauguration just around the weekend, the celebration of all things Obama -- and all things racial landmark -- is in high gear. In this Sunday's New York Times Magazine, there's an add for the ultimate
Visa card ($495 annual fee) and, in an aesthetic turn around, black has become the new, well, black (but in that white, Masters of the Universe way!)…

Sure enough, people were lined up down the block on January 10th, waiting for Metro Pictures to open their doors. If I were Bill Cunningham of The New York Times, I would have had lots of material for a…

Quincy Jones has started a petition to ask President-Elect Obama to appoint a Secretary of the Arts. While many other countries have had Ministers of Art or Culture for centuries, The United States has never created such a position.
