What to do now?

Very glad to have come across this site. I live in Inwood in Upper Manhattan and have just quit my job to work as an artist full time - pastel, pen and ink, acrylic, paper. I mix media all the time. Since I am sooooo inexperienced at living like this does anyone have any suggestions as to what associations to join or how to find exposure besides locally? I want to ultimatly get into galleries in Soho. Quite an ambition.

The advice I hear most often is 'persevere!'
