Interview with Michelle Ellsworth: Dance Artifacts and the Cloud

I interviewed Michelle Ellsworth before the premiere of her work http://www.tifprabap.org/ at Dance Theater Workshop in NYC.

She talked about her journey as dance soloist making connection between technology, religions and humanness.

In this episode I am experimenting with hyperlinking het video material/documentation to augment her words. I am using Viddler that allows you to create links and comment and more as dots in the timeline. So, hover over the dot… Continue

A Good Neighborhood

Community Dialogue/Dialogo Comunitario

Fri., April 18, 7pm

The theatrical project A Good Neighborhood is based on the hope that dialogue and cultural currency will allow Inwood and Washington Heights to maintain its vibrant character and friendly demeanor through the changing tide. It is a collaboration between playwright J. Holtham, director Wendy McClellan and producer Lonnie Cooper that explores the transitions in their Northern Manhattan neighborhood. It delves into the tensions… Continue

Words:

Hello, I am a little nervous, well, not nervous, just concerned that, well, I'm going public with "chatter" that may not matter. Oh, for those of you who know me a little, I am somewhat uncontrollable re: rhyming. If I had grown up in an other decade, or two, I know I'd be rapping.

I am right now here in Florida, if I were home, nyc, (the usual me) I probably would not feel justified in sending postcards from my room, but, now on Vacation, well, at least I can say the weather is sunny,… Continue

no f'in way!!!! talk about multi-tasking

via the NYTimes Arts Briefly, the conductor of the Pittsburgh Opera, Anthony Walker, stepped in to save the day. The tenor in the leading role of Aida was ill, and the sub never made it to the theater. The tenor slogged through a bit before giving up, at which point Walker sang the role from the pit while conducting, and the ailing Vladimir Kuzmenko acted the role… Continue

humor/genius

I had an interesting experience watching the work in progress of a choreographer the other day. It raised an interesting question or perhaps artistic quandry as the choreographer was trying in the work to integrate her strength as a comedic presence with her other interest in classical dance. The piece put both together in an almost satisfying way, but there was a clear sense of two pieces in one. I left the performance and thought later about Woody Allen -- not the Bananas era, but the… Continue

lisbon story

I love wim wenders.

I read a book he wrote and commented a lot about it on Artists Unite ISSUE here.

The cool thing is I was telling wendy about the film of his we just got from Netflix. I said, "this is my second favorite wim wenders movie. The first is Wings of Desire. The third is every other movie he made. The 2nd (the one I just got) is Lisbon story. It's almost a comedy. The character of the soundman, Winter, is so… Continue
