Maximo Tejada’s passion for photography began in the 1980’s when he attended a photography course offered by medical doctor and photographer Marcel Morel. At this event held in El Centro de la Cultura de Santiago, Maximo won first place in the color photography category.
In 1991, Maximo graduated in TV production from the Center for Media Arts in New York City. As a result of becoming more interested in digital photography, he traveled to Montana in 2005 to attend a course in Photoshop held at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography.
He has participated in various collectives in his homeland of Santiago, Dominican Republic as well as in the United States. He is an active member of the photography club Grupo Fotografico de Santiago (Grufos) in Dominican Republic and the Alliance of Dominican American Visual Artists (ADAVA) in New York City. In April 2007, Maximo won Honorable Mention in the Homenaje a la Ancianidad contest organized by the nursing home Saint Vincent the Paul held in the Centro Leon de Santiago, Dominican Republic.
The year 2008 has been a busy one for Maximo. He was selected as a finalist in the magazine, Photographer’s Forum, Best of College contest. He was also published in Republica Dominicana en imagines, a book about the natural beauty, architecture, and people of the Dominican Republic. In June, he graduated from the Hallmark Institute of Photography located in Turners Falls, Massachusetts. Recently, he participated in a fundraising benefit for Doctors Without Borders. Maximo is also honored to have two of his images placed in the permanent collection of the Hallmark Museum of Contemporary Photography.
After graduating from Hallmark, Maximo moved back to New New York to work as a commercial photographer.
