Judy Ilene Starr “My Story “
I was born in Brooklyn , NY & raised in Woodmere, Long Island, NY. Where nature surrounded our 1950's style home.
My heritage is an Eastern European... a melange that includes
Jewish, Chinese & Black races. Growing up in Woodmere then was a magical theater.I had marshes, swamps & fields of weeds as my playground instead of a concrete mall .I walked in the marshes fearlessly searching for untamed creatures, unusual rocks & native plants .I loved getting muddy & still do till this very day .
Here is my story on how making art became my life :
To my detriment - I can't comprehend written words or spell very well ! Literacy has been challenging since being sent out into the cold world to kindergarten at 5 years of age.I spent most of my academic years at my school desk, day dreaming, since the type in the books were just blurs to my eyes. Those wandering thoughts needed to be turned into reality so I
could graduate from the educational system and survive in the world. Hence, the unearthing of my intrinsic artistic capabilities as supported by DNA handed down from both Grandfathers who were talented artists. So, the discovery of my first shoe box turned my whole world around .Thank the heavens my Mom's was a 10shoe size ! I created little theaters of the books we were suppose to read .Lucky for me that they were picture books!!! Then, as I matured I searched for other ways to do my artwork .Paints , collage paper, found objects ceramics. These creations helped meto feel complete. So, here I am a few years later still with paper, paints, brushes & muddy hands .Churning my Day Dreams into Visions & my Visions into Day Dreams ...
