Rick D. Adkins is a native of Scottsboro, Alabama. He now lives in Huntsville, Alabama, pursuing his art career. Rick is part owner of R. C. Kinsmon Fine Art and Art Photography Studio located in Huntsville. Rick has shown in many group exhibitions since graduating from Jacksonville State University in 2009, with a BFA in Printmaking.
While at Jacksonville State, Rick had work shown alongside artist Yoko Ono in Fort Worth Texas at the FluxMuseum. Rick has work included in two museum collections. As well as having work in many national and international private collections. Rick has recently had his work published in the local Valley Planet magazine in Huntsville. Rick is not only a published artist but also has had his research on Japanese woodblock printing techniques published.
Rick is now a certified instructor for Grumbacher Paint Company, and is pursuing his work in the arts. He has worked with many charity organizations to produce work for them. One of which is the GLBT Advocacy and Youth Service Organization in Huntsville, with his portraits of GLBTQ persons. Rick is also working on a few solo shows that will be opening in the next year.
Rick credits his father for his working in the art field. His father used to call his drawings stick men, and he would always reply “One day dad you will see these stick men will take me some place.” This drive has always stuck with him, no matter what was going on Rick had never let go of his dream.
Rick’s belief in painting is that everyone can paint if just given the chance and the knowledge to succeed. This is the one thing that Rick hopes to accomplish while teaching any of his workshops and hopes that his students can go away with a feeling of accomplishment and be proud of their painting.
