Artist / Designer
Karla Solano was born and raised in Colombia and moved to the United States in 1989. She studied fashion design in New York City and graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1997. She has been working in the NYC fashion industry for the past 14 years, where she has successfully designed brands such as Daisy Fuentes, B. Street, and Apostrophe among others.
For the past seven years she has been exploring her spirituality which has brought forth an increase in self awareness allowing her to express her feelings and spiritual growth through her work. A form of expression that she hopes can touch the soul of everyone who comes in contact with her art.
The artist’s goal is to create works of art that can allow the viewer to reach within and connect with their spiritual self so they can have a better perspective about their life and in return make this world a better place for themselves and everyone in it.
Karla Solano’s mission is to help poor children in Colombia by donating profits from the sales of her paintings to foundations such as: Fundacion Dar Amor, Fundacion Casa de Colombia, Children’s rehabilitation and adoption Center (CRAN), and High cloud foundation.
The technique used by the artist utilizes acrylic medium with touches of metallic paints, glitter and Swarovski crystals. This unique and modern technique creates a shimmery illusion of light giving a three-dimensional and surreal effect to her work.
