Belinda McGuire (dancer, choreographer, producer), from Toronto, has worked with Canadian artists including Peggy Baker, David Earle and Carol Anderson, and has performed throughout Canada and Singapore/Malaysia as a member of the Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre under the direction of Deborah Lundmark. In 2006 she graduated with a B.F.A. in Dance from the Juilliard School under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes, where she performed works by Ronald K. Brown, Jacqueline Buglisi, Adam Hougland, José Limòn, Mark Morris, Paul Taylor and Doug Varone. Belinda was one of four choreographers at The Yard this summer, through the Bessie Schönberg Residency. Her choreography has been presented at the Festival de la Ciudad 2009 (Merida, Yucatan Mexico), the Canada Dance Festival (Ottawa), in Toronto and in New York City on the stages of the Peter Jay Sharp Theater and Alice Tully Hall, Joyce Soho as well as in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Most recently, she performed and produced a one-woman show, The Desert Island Project. This endeavor also engaged her as a choreographer, costume and light designer and stage manager. Her pursuit of choreography through film was recognized and assisted through the Dance Films Association’s 2007 Susan Braun Award. She also teaches classes in Canada and the United States. Of her dancing, The New York Times writes “...with deep lunges and backward arches, Ms McGuire created a dreamy, sensual mood. But there were hints of darkness...” and the Brooklyn Rail calls McGuire’s performance “hypnotic.”As a performing artist, Belinda currently performs with Gallim Dance and The Jose Limon Dance Company and has danced with Doug Varone and Dancers, Ofelia Lorette de Mola's DANSCORES, the DOORKNOB Company and The Canadian Children's Dance Theatre. As a costume, light and set designer, she works primarily for herself, though she has fulfilled these capacities on occasion with other groups, such as Gallim Dance. Thanks for pointing out the incomplete list of "media" on the profile. I added DANCE! (I used to work at Dance New Amsterdam myself--sheesh!) Cheers.
