The idea of a "laboriously fought for spontaneity" that Jacob brings up is intriguing to me. Although such a description seems a paradox I tend to agree with his word choice. These pictures give a snapshot of life lived: varying and unpredictable, ever moving. A certain energy is captured in Mr. Vick's work. At the same time it is apparent that quantities of time have elapsed in the formation of these found cityscapes, so they do have an archeological and laborious element to them. Mr. Vick has a talent for harnessing the unwitting creativity of the masses and incorporating it deftly into his own artistic vision.

What I love about the work is its deeply ingrained optimism. To focus in on that which is dismissed by almost everyone, and to there find deeply engrossing imagery is a testament to the difference between "seeing" and "observing". It also raises the poignant questions, "How much do WE miss as we shuffle around from place to place?" and "Does this sort of substance actually exist around us, or do we miss it because it is not formatted/packaged/contextualized for us?"

well it looks like a retro view history using magazine clippings, like the example of the egyptian pharo. I am undecided about this work because i dont know a whole lot about art or what to say about it. maybe if i was wearing 3D glasses this would look alot different but right now to me it dosent look like a whole more than a random scrap book of things to resemble a small fraction of what may be history?

I enjoy this artwork because it reminds me of the weather torn posters you would see in the city on the outside of the buildings, only thrown into a collage. It gives off a sense of history, only thrown together. Many people do not see the art of a collage of weather torn posters on a wall because they ignore and see it everyday, but this brings it to light for people to see.

Kenneth Vick purposely takes items from our surroundings and changes them up to remind us that life is constantly changing. I believe Vick is demonstrating Ryan's questions of missing these substances because they are not formatted in a usual way for us. The way Vick packages up these everyday resources and places them in ways neither of us have seen before presents the point that we must open our eyes a little more each day. There is a difference between "seeing" and "observing" and Vick wishes us to see this concept and perhaps look around a little more closely the next time.

I think Mr. Vick's artwork is interesting because he can take graffiti and old posters and make them into a collage of artwork. I can't take posters and see them as beautiful pieces of art in the way that Mr. Vick can. I think graffiti is artwork by itself but i personally don't like these pictures, they kind of seem like random things shoved into a photo.

The pictures look like a retro tv commercial where they take pictures of a lot of things then throw them all together and make a commercial out of them. the first picture looks like its a piece of paper that is starting to crumple up and move to the next picture. they are very abstract and original.

Kenneth Vick did something truly inspiring when he took old signs and gave them new life. I for one think graffiti can be an accepted form of art and i think that the first image and the last are possible the best representations of the fact.

I find these intriguing. I like the use of the color especially in the first.
