I'm a painter and printmaker living in the Inwood section of Manhattan. I have always been inspired by trees, and since moving next to Inwood Park my work has become all about them. I go on pilgrimages with my camera, seeking meaning and collecting images. The close observation of forms in trees is a meditative practice for me. Whether I walk in a forest, or I encounter a lone tree in the city, their individual personalities inspire me. The life lived leaves scars, gnarls and details that are beautiful. I start to feel them as individuals, requesting a portrait. Archetypal forms found in nature permeate my work. I am looking for anthropomorphic images, creating mandalas, searching for symbols.
